Further Description
This guitar is in excellent condition for its age, plays great with full sound & low action, supplied with a new generic hard case. A very brief history of Fender acoustics in the 60's; In 1962 Leo Fender employed Roger Rossmeisl (an ex Rickenbacker luthier) to help design & build a new range of Fender acoustic guitars, all were flat top jumbos which included the Kingman, Palomino, Redondo, Newporter, Villager & concert series 6 string, & the Shenandoah 12 string Jumbos. These instruments were favoured by many artistes for their great sound & very low action, due in many ways to the detachable neck (as in Strats & Teles) and the internal aluminium bracing bar fitted to some models. All guitars featured quality natural dried woods, with close grained spruce tops, mahogany sides & back with the famous Fender strat type neck with 4 screw fitting; production ceased around 1971. (Sources Fender--the inside story-Forrest White) This is an early Redondo jumbo, more the size of a folk jumbo & dates circa 1967 (It has the original Fender tuners that were introduced in 1965)) and the body has a close grained spruce top, in original finish with a few minor normal wear marks. The sides & back are mahogany in original finish, with body binding to top & back, again solid construction just minor wear marks. The body & neck are totally original & structurally sound & have never been repaired or modified. It has original 'shield' type 4 bolt neck plate with serial number 25216. The guitar is in all original condition. (Exc strings!) The neck is in good condition, maple with rosewood fingerboard with minimal fret wear and has the original early Fender tuners (all in working order) & original Fender string tree fitted, frets & fingerboard are in good condition as is neck truss rod adjuster, which works as it should & the action is superb. This guitar plays a dream, just like a well set up Strat; very low action, easy to play radiused fingerboard, (as with all early Fender guitars) and a big ringing smooth sound that is so typical of these fine instruments! This Fender Redondo has been well looked after during its playing life and is in good overall used condition; a great addition to your vintage Fender collection. Further pictures are available & you are welcome to visit our showroom & view & try out the guitar.
